My suggestion: always start first practices with instructors. It is important to learn basic breathing, movement theory, and correct posture 'how-to' in early contact of yoga. Avoid starting yoga from books/video because by just imtating the outlook can create unwanted injury.
There are many styles in yoga, all are beneficial in specific aspects. The gentle and widely practices Hatha yoga is generally suitable for beginnings. You may build your own interests and focus later on the path of yoga.
